Alex Otaola is known for his work in bands such as SANTA SABINA (the first Mexican band to release an official MTV Unplugged concert album) and LA BARRANCA, and he is currently a member of SAN PASCUALITO REY. He has released two solo albums: FRACTALES (2007), which made him the first Mexican guitarist to have his music included in the Guitarra Total-Spain CD-sampler, and EL HOMBRE DE LA CÁMARA (2010), the first album ever to be recorded live at the Mexican National Film Archives; both albums won IMA awards for best experimental album of the year. He is currently getting ready to record some new material: a duet with Mexico's top jazz vocalist, IRAIDA NORIEGA.

He uses Jimmy Wess Professional Nickel Wound strings.

"I have no idea how to define my style since I try to make every musical situation be what determines what I have to contribute... but I suspect it is something close to 'free rock'."

Testimonial:

For electric guitar I use nickel wound with gauges from 10 to 46, for acoustic guitar I use bronze wound gauges 12 to 54, and for my 12-string acoustic guitar I use a custom combination with heavier gauges for the third and fourth strings.

The main advantage of using JIMMY WESS strings is that they keep their brightness for longer than other strings I've tried, and for acoustic guitar strings, their tuning stability is impeccable!
